The enigmatic Naarm (Melbourne) based Glass Beams radiates a psychedelia rendered with cyclical riffs and dizzying melodies.

Recorded at the beginning of 2020, ‘Mirage’ is the debut release from the artist, showcasing an inclination for cosmic instrumentation, eastern scales and kraut pervaded polyrhythms, issuing four compositions that lend from a profusion of sounds and influences.

“My father was born in India and moved here when he was 17, and in searching for new energy and inspiration to write music, I dug around for music from my father’s hometown and surrounding areas. I found a wealth of Indian classical, 70’s disco and pop music that formed the building blocks for this record. As soon as I had that vision of what I wanted to write and why I wanted to write it, the songs just flowed out really." – Glass Beams

Upon release, Glass Beams ‘Mirage’ oozes onto the turntables of Gilles Peterson, The Gaslamp Killer & Trevor Jackson, with the single ‘Taurus’ being spun on BBC6’s ‘Fantastic Beats’, and featured on Jayda G’s DJ Kicks release, alongside artists such as KOKOROKO & Atmosfear.

Glass Beams self recorded studio material, awakens into an immersive live show; hypnotic renditions of the songs performed by a masked quartet.

We may not know much about the enigmatic Glass Beams but ‘Mirage’ is one epic inauguration, leaving the listener with more questions than answers.
