Mindy Meng Wang 王萌 & Sui Zhen are Chinese-Australian composers who formed their collaboration spontaneously one wintry afternoon in Naarm, Melbourne. Their debut collaborative record Origin of You centres around the continual shift in an individual’s understanding of identity and of the self – coming to terms with who you are, where you are from, and where you will go. It is about birth, life and death. It is also about transformation: from daughter to woman, woman to mother, outsider to friend.

Ultimately, the album’s strongest theme, the feeling that stays with listeners long after the last note has been played, is the importance of human connection and connectedness to others. The record is a living testament, a musical score, to bonds formed between individuals that last a lifetime. As Mindy says “We created our own family. We formed a sisterhood."
