Sampology is a Producer, DJ, radio host for Worldwide FM and vinyl enthusiast since his teens, based in Meanjin/Brisbane, Australia.

By his mid-teens he had developed a love for sample heavy music - early Native Tongues, The Avalanches, disco, and soul. Sampling dance music made a huge impression on Sampology - indeed, his performer name is a nod to this early influence of sampling.

Sampologys’ start in Brisbane venues began at 17, evolving to interstate & eventually overseas travel to DJ & perform in Europe & UK, America & Asia. This has been a valued part of his growth, connecting him to different communities abroad from Australia.

Over the past six years, he has organically progressed to producer - of his own stunning EP releases Natural Selections (2016) and Mt Glorious (2018) as well as producing for other artists. (He produced Tiana Khasi’s Meghalaya EP and First Beige’s Mirrors EP)

In September 2021, Sampology released the Regrowth LP - an album that his last two EPs have built towards. Despite his love for sampling - with the exception of the Mariana Ingold sample on the opening song on Regrowth (Peace Lily) - all of the samples you hear on the album are recorded from scratch either in his home studio or on his travels over the past four years. Regrowth has string quartets, woodwind, full 20-piece choirs, vibraphones, double bass, various pianos and synths.

The majority of Regrowth was written and recorded during the Australian bushfires in the summer of 2019, and the album’s title came from reflecting on the environment during this time.

Between February and April 2022 Sampology will release ‘Regrowth Rearranged’ a four-track release that connects the dots between club, electronic world, soul, jazz, and funk music. Regrowth Rearranged features replays and remixes of tracks from the Regrowth album by Glass Beams, IN2STELLAR, Izy and Ron Trent.

On Regrowth Rearranged, Sampology said:

Connecting the dots between flourishing but divergent music scenes within Australia as well as Chicago is central to Regrowth Rearranged. The two artist groups (Glass Beams and Izy) who replayed my album songs with the two artists (IN2STELLAR and Ron Trent) who created remixes represent a widely embraced line-up of sounds I’d like to go see on the one lineup on a night out. Having  these different sounds and communities all connected together is something I’d love to see more within the culture of dance music, blurred but beautiful.’

Regrowth Rearranged will be released from February 25 through to April 8, 2022 on Middle Name Records.
