Sinj Clarke is a Melbourne based pianist and composer. Known for his understated and laconic style of composition, Sinj Clarke’s music evokes a cinematic dreamscape redolent of late seventies Italian film scores and sun drenched exotica.

Appearing on the scene in 2019, Sinj Clarke’s debut EP “Music For An Italian Afternoon” established a trademark approach to composition that combines Clarke’s bold orchestration with an auteur’s attentiveness to detail. Described as ‘a sonic elixir we all should taste’, ‘Music For An Italian Afternoon’ was the result of a year long experimentation in composition and arrangement with only one creative caveat: no idea is unachievable. Recorded over one week at Sydney’s now defunct Linear Studios, ‘Music For An Italian Afternoon’ featured an ensemble upwards of a dozen members whose artistic backgrounds span the breadth of Sydney’s iconic and diverse music scene. Reuniting for one evening only, the ensemble, featuring members of the SSO, ACO & AYO, transformed Surry Hill’s iconic Shakespeare Hotel into a makeshift concert hall, performing ‘Music For An Italian Afternoon’ in full to a sold out crowd that spilled out to the streets of Surry Hills.

The beginning of 2020 saw Sinj Clarke quietly release his follow up double single “I Fell In Love, Again / Unas Horas”. Recorded over several weeks at Melbourne’s iconic College Of Knowledge Studios (Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo), I Fell In Love, Again / Unas Horas continued to develop the idiosyncratic sound established by Music For An Italian Afternoon.

Unlike An Italian Afternoon, I Fell In Love, Again & Unas Horas were composed, more or less exactly how they are heard on the final recording in only a single afternoon. The result of which is an artistic honesty and an intimacy of arrangement captured simply to eight track tape machine.

It is clear that honesty resonated with the greater world. With airplay on BBC, KCRW, NTS and more, Sinj Clarke continues to go from strength to strength as an artist.

2023 has seen Sinj Clarke release his sophomore album ‘The Height of Love’ to critical acclaim, with an Aria nomination and PBS feature, as well as a run of live dates across Australia.
